Nice and the Promenade des Anglais, is almost a myth
One is discovering Nice, is obviously walking along the first attraction ever made and built in Nice for the pleasure of the tourists.
The Promenade des anglais, is the main road along the sea side, which covers all the bay of Nice, the “Baie des Anges”.
It was very firstly, a beautiful little path which has been transformed step by step,since 1824.
Back to that time, Nice was not French yet , and the Promenade was so called in italian “strada del littorale”, a very small path of only 2 meters wide, for the pleasure of the winter residents and visitors coming from Great Britain, mainly and all Europe.
The initiator of the project, Priest of the anglican Church in Nice, Lewis Way, could not imagine the successful story of that small path!
The Niçois people changed it in their language : it became the “camin deï ingles”
Since then, it is the Promenade des anglais , the main attraction of Nice and 7 kilometers length.
Some projects are going to improve also the different possibilities to enjoy the Promenade des anglais, is every day , every hour different with very amazing moments of beauty. it is changing every moment with beautiful colors and light with sunrise or sunset, on the water, on the beautiful facade of the hotels such as Negresco.
Henri Matisse , the painter, did arrive in Nice in 1921.
From his apartment in the old town, he had this view on the Promenade des anglais, he could admire the scenery and the beautiful panorama form his window.
As a visitor, do not miss the promenade des anglais,it is not just an attraction but also as a real piece of heart of the niçois life.
